What media players do you support?
We support any Shoutcast-compatible media player. This list includes
Windows Media Player, Winamp, iTunes, VLC media player, RealOne
Player, xmms, and, seriously, about every capable media player out there.
How can I improve the quality of the audio?
A large part of our stream uses mp3PRO
to improve the quality of the sound. Both a plugin for Winamp and a demostration player
are available for Windows. If want to use the mp3PRO plugin for Winamp, note that
it overrides the default MP3 plugin for Winamp. In this aspect, mp3PRO is worse at
MP3 tag editing and stream information, and is also less efficient than the default
MP3 plugin. You can disable mp3PRO at any time though, by going to Winamp Preferences,
selecting Input, selecting THOMPSON mp3PRO Decoder, clicking Configure,
and unchecking Enable (use mp3PRO Decoder for all .mp3 files).
There is nothing for Mac OS X and Linux users unfortunately,
but mp3PRO is not needed to listen anyway and the quality already is not that bad.
Is there instrumental and orchestral music?
There are a few instrumental and orchestral pieces in the playlist,
and some of our DJs may play pieces. Primarily though, most of the songs
will have lyrics in them. In the future, we may make a block of time in our
schedule for purely orchestral and instrumental music.
What does it mean when it says DJ Online?
DJ stands for disc jockey, and that is someone who selects the music to play.
That essentially means that, instead of us playing the our usual playlist,
a live DJ can choose to play whatever songs he desires. Some of our DJs
may even talk or do a live show.
How can I support KAF Radio?
Tell all your friends about KAF Radio, put links to this website
on your profiles, websites, MySpace, Xanga, and Facebook, and donate
if you are able to.
Who hosts KAF Radio and what does it run on?
We host the server ourselves. The server runs on Icecast 2 with ices0 for
the playlist. Our DJs use their own software for streaming.
When did KAF Radio start?
We originally started in August 2005 with a 250 user any-bitrate
Shoutcast server. Due to two hard drive deaths three days apart (we blame
the hot Southern California weather), the radio was shutdown. Since then, we had
been up and off from time to time.
